The DiskPilot is a goofy name I gave to myself back in 1998 when I was busy coding and writing apps for my employer (when I was not busy flying offshore over the Grand Banks). I spent hours, days, weeks, months and years learning how to code and write bespoke programs in FoxPro, Visual Basic and Microsoft Excel based on a few beginner courses I was exposed to while serving in the Canadian Air Force. Some of my early work from that period is still in use to this very day.
Since acquiring my first computer in 1981 (a Radio Shack TRS-80 with 16 kilobytes of RAM) I’ve spent a lot of time assembling and configuring my own computers. I have endlessly puttered around with desktops, laptops, game consoles and all manner of audio gear. I’ve dabbled in technical writing, spreadsheet & app development, and basic laptop and electronics repair. Along the way, I have learned a lot about setting up and optimizing my own equipment. Now I am at the point in my life where I think I might be of some help to less tech-savvy internet sailors in the beautiful town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, where I presently reside. The DiskPilot is here to help anyone in my local area (Lunenburg, La Have, Riverport, Blue Rocks, and Mahone Bay) that is struggling or mystified by all of the home tech that is available today.
